Santa Clara/Foxborough (USA), June 14 -- Qatar earned a historic first-ever FIFA World Cup point with a dramatic stoppage-time equaliser against Switzerland, while Scotland made a winning start to their campaign with a 1-0 victory over Haiti in Group-stage action on Sunday.

At Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, Qatar captain Boualem Khoukhi headed home in the 94th minute to secure a 1-1 draw against Switzerland after the Europeans appeared destined for victory.

Switzerland had taken the lead in the 17th minute when Breel Embolo converted a penalty after goalkeeper Meshaal Abunada fouled Remo Freuler inside the box. The Swiss dominated proceedings, creating numerous chances and finishing with 22 shots, but failed to add to their advantage.
