Kolkata, April 16 -- In a surprising development, the Election Commission has discovered that more than 100 polling booths in central Kolkata lack electricity.
The issue has raised serious concerns just a few days ahead of the election because this time the Commission has mandated advanced webcasting arrangements at every polling station to ensure transparency during voting.
"Webcasting cannot function without a reliable power supply. So we have directed district election officers (DEOs) to immediately ensure electricity connections at all such booths," a senior official at the CEO's office said.
In cases where restoring power is not feasible in time, authorities have been instructed to arrange generators.
