Bengaluru, May 19 -- union Minister HD Kumaraswamy launched a sharp attack on the Karnataka Congress Government on Tuesday, accusing it of prioritising political conventions over addressing the growing agrarian distress in the state and alleging that farmer suicide cases were being suppressed.
Addressing reporters at the JD(S) state office, JP Bhavan, Kumaraswamy said the government's focus on large-scale events reflected a disregard for the suffering of farmers. "Celebrating conventions over farmers' deaths," he said, targeting the administration over its handling of the issue.
He cited National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) data to claim that Karnataka recorded 2,423 farmer and agricultural labourer suicides in 2023 and 2,971 in 2024. "In...
