Saharsa, June 22 -- The administration has intensified surveillance on the embankments of the river Kosi following increase in its water level due to continuous rainfall in its catchment areas in Nepal.
Official sources said here that flood-control infrastructure were also being monitored.
According to information received from the control room at the Kosi Barrage, the river discharge was recorded at 186,385 cusecs. In view of the increased inflow, 22 of the barrage's 56 gates have been opened to regulate the flow of water.
Engineers posted at the flood control room are closely monitoring the situation and keeping a constant watch on the river's behaviour, sources said.
