Kolkata, July 24 -- The 135th Durand Cup will kick off with a blockbuster clash between Indian football's traditional as East Bengal FC take on Mohun Bagan Super Giant in the Kolkata Derby at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan here tomorrow.
There could hardly have been a bigger fixture to open Asia's oldest football tournament. Mohun Bagan enter the competition as the most successful team in Durand Cup history with 17 titles, while East Bengal are close behind with 16.
The two rivals have met more than 20 times in the tournament and have contested 12 Durand Cup finals. Their last title clash came in 2023, when Mohun Bagan defeated East Bengal 1-0 to end a 23-year wait for the trophy and lift their record-extending 17th title.
