Kolkata, May 13 -- The West Bengal government on Wednesday started the demolition of an illegal factory in south east Kolkata's Tiljala area.
On Tuesday, a fire had broken out in the factory located on a five-storey building that claimed two lives and left at least three people injured.
On Wednesday, demolition teams from the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) started razing the structure using earthmoving equipment such as JCBs and bulldozers .
Earlier in the day, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari said a committee comprising officials from four departments had found serious violations at the premises, including the absence of an approved building plan and a failure to meet essential fire and electrical safety standards.
