Kolkata, April 19 -- Tension gripped New Town on Kolkata's north eastern fringes on Sunday after more than 400 Aadhaar cards were recovered from a canal bank, triggering a political slugfest amid the ongoing election atmosphere.
According to local sources, the incident came to light around noon when a group of children, playing near the relatively secluded canal-side in the Shulniguri Dakshinpara area, spotted a suspicious looking sack lying abandoned. Their curiosity prompted them to alert nearby residents.
Upon opening the sack, locals were stunned to find it stuffed with a large number of Aadhaar cards. Residents claimed that the recovered identity documents belonged to people living in the same locality.
