Kolkata, June 3 -- A city court has sentenced a butcher to life imprisonment for the brutal murder of a man during a violent altercation in Rajabagan in 2018, while also awarding him an additional ten years in prison for severing the hand of another man who tried to stop the fight.

The convicted man, Mohammed Kalam, was found guilty of murdering Isanul Haque following a dispute that escalated into a deadly attack in the Shimpukur Lane area of Rajabagan near Garden Reach.

According to the prosecution, an argument broke out between Kalam and Haque, following which Kalam repeatedly attacked the victim with a chopper. Haque sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene.
