Kolkata, June 9 -- Kolkata Municipal Corporation Councillor Sushmita Bhattacharya and her husband were arrested on Tuesday on charges of fraudulently taking around Rs 30 lakh from an elderly man.
Cases of extortion and issuing threats have also been slapped on Bhattacharya, chairperson of Borough 7 and councillor of Ward 63. Her husband, Salil Chatterjee, was also arrested in the same case. With Bhattacharya's arrest eight Trinamool Congress councillors of the city civic body have been taken into custody recently.
According to police sources, two FIRs were lodged at the Watganj police station against the couple for allegedly defraduing the elderly man of around Rs 30 lakh.
