Kolhapur, May 29 -- The Kolhapur circuit bench of Bombay High Court has consistently permitted Qurbani (animal sacrifice) during Bakri-Eid and Urs celebrations at the Hajrat Peer Malik Rehan Mira Saheb Dargah at the historic Vishalgad Fort in Shahuwadi tehsil of Kolhapur district from May 28 to June 2. The court struck down administrative bans on the practice, but imposed strict conditions.
On a petition of Durga Trust, the court directed that the sacrifice of animals or birds is restricted to enclosed, private premises.
The activity is mandated to take place at Gate No. 19 which is privately owned, to prevent slaughtering in open or public spaces. The ruling extends to the Dargah Trust as well as to devotees participating in the observan...
