Kolhapur, July 30 -- A racket of illegal sex determination and illegal abortions has been busted in Kolhapur city and district. Dr. Chandrakant Gunda Gaikwad, director of 'Pratimah Hospital' on Kadamwadi Road in Kolhapur, has been caught red-handed while performing illegal abortions.
Dr. Gaikwad has served as a civil surgeon (district surgeon) in Poladpur, Mumbai, Sindhudurg, Raigad, Ratnagiri and Beed.
He has also worked as an additional superintendent at St. George Hospital, Mumbai and as an assistant director in Pune.
The discovery of such a high-profile doctor involved in an abortion racket has created a stir in the district.
