New Delhi/Hyderabad, April 14 -- union Coal and Mines Minister G Kishan Reddy on Tuesday said the Centre would soon take up amendments in Parliament to implement 33 per cent reservation for women in legislative bodies, calling it a major step towards women's empowerment.
Addressing the media, he said discussions on the issue would be held in Parliament on April 16, 17 and 18, and described both women's reservation and delimitation as constitutionally mandated processes.
Kishan Reddy said the current bill, introduced under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, aims to enhance the self-respect, rights and political participation of women, who constitute nearly half of the country's population.
