Hyderabad, Aug. 20 -- Doctors at KIMS Cuddles, Kondapur, successfully treated a 28-day-old infant with severe airway narrowing, restoring normal breathing without the need for a tracheostomy.
A hospital statement on Thursday said, the baby was brought in with severe respiratory distress and noisy breathing and had required ventilator support for seven days after birth. Doctors found that only a 2.5-size breathing tube could be inserted, instead of the expected 3 or 3.5-size tube. Further evaluation revealed Grade 2 subglottic stenosis, a narrowing of the airway below the vocal cords.
