Madurai, Aug. 8 -- In a shocking incident, a key accused in the Palani Lord Dhandayuthapani Swamigal Temple Mutt's Rs 100 crore worth land illegal registration case, died inside the prison here on Friday night.
Reports received here said, the accused Advocate Anwardeen (65), died hours after he was escorted back to Madurai Central Prison after three days of questioning in police by the CB-CID, which was probing the case after it was transferred from the Dindigul district police.
According to prison authorities, Anwardeen was lodged in the prison after the CB-CID completed its custodial interrogation at Dindigul. Officials said he was admitted with a valid medical fitness certificate issued prior to his handover to prison authorities.
