Thiruvananthapuram, June 15 -- Kerala will commence the first phase of Census 2027, India's first fully digital population census, on July 1, marking a significant step in modernising the country's decennial enumeration process.

Announcing the programme at a press conference here on Monday, Census State Nodal Officer and General Administration Department Secretary K. Biju said the census will be conducted in two phases.

The first phase, covering House Listing Operations (HLO) and housing census activities, will be carried out from July 1 to July 30, 2026. The second phase, involving population enumeration, is scheduled for February 2027.
