Thiruvananthapuram, June 29 -- Kerala's statewide Pulse Polio Immunisation campaign achieved significant coverage on Sunday, with 17.53 lakh children below the age of five receiving oral polio vaccine drops at immunisation booths across the state.
Announcing the progress of the drive, Health Minister K. Muralidharan said the campaign covered 88.53 per cent of the targeted beneficiaries on the first day.
The Health Department had set a target of vaccinating 19.8 lakh children under the age of five during the Pulse Polio campaign. While the turnout at vaccination booths was encouraging, efforts are now being intensified to ensure that every eligible child is covered.
