Thiruvananthapuram, Oct. 7 -- Kerala Police has booked 2,021 buses for operating with their doors open during a statewide special drive conducted from September 23 to 30, amid growing concern over accidents involving passengers falling from moving buses.

The week-long drive covered 31,408 buses across the State, resulting in fines totalling Rs 5.57 lakh for the violations.

The inspections were intensified following incidents in Thiruvananthapuram and Ernakulam districts in which passengers died after falling through open doors of moving buses. A passenger was also injured in a similar incident in Thrissur district.
