Thiruvananthapuram, June 15 -- Kerala Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan on Monday launched the Priyadarshini scheme, providing free travel for women and transgender persons in ordinary-category services operated by the state-run KSRTC, describing it as a major welfare intervention aimed at promoting social and economic empowerment.
Inaugurating the scheme at the KSRTC Central Bus Station in Thampanoor, the Chief Minister said the initiative was not an act of charity but a transformative measure intended to enhance mobility, dignity and financial independence for women across Kerala.
"This is not a concession but a meaningful public welfare intervention capable of bringing about far-reaching social and economic changes," Satheesan said.
