Thiruvananthapuram, July 14 -- Taking serious note of mounting complaints that canals, streams and roadsides in the State capital have turned into garbage dumps, the Kerala State Human Rights Commission (HRC) has directed the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation to launch immediate and coordinated action to clear the accumulated waste and establish a permanent mechanism to prevent its recurrence.
Issuing the directive in a suo motu case registered on the basis of media reports, Commission Chairperson Justice Alexander Thomas ordered the Secretary of the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation to take the lead in coordinating all concerned departments and ensure urgent and effective waste management across the city.
