Kochi, July 16 -- The Kerala High Court has issued a significant interim order suspending the functioning of the existing Kerala Waqf Board while hearing a petition filed by BJP State Vice-President Advocate Shaun George.
The interim order was passed after the court prima facie accepted the petitioner's contention that the present Kerala Waqf Board had not been constituted in accordance with the provisions of the Central Waqf Act.
The State Government informed the High Court that the existing Kerala Waqf Board was not in conformity with the Central Waqf Act and expressed its willingness to reconstitute the Board in accordance with Section 14 of the Waqf Act.
