Thiruvananthapuram, Aug. 2 -- The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday upgraded its rainfall warning for Kerala, raising the previously announced Yellow Alert to an Orange Alert in 12 districts, as the State braces for another spell of very heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds.

According to the IMD's updated five-day rainfall forecast, Orange Alert has been issued for Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod districts on August 2.
