Thiruvananthapuram, July 16 -- Kerala Congress has urged the Kerala Government to take immediate steps to restore the Uttarappalliyar River, citing severe environmental degradation, public health concerns and prolonged delays in implementing court directives and government orders.

In a memorandum submitted to Irrigation Minister Mons Joseph and Revenue Minister A.P. Anil Kumar, the Chengannur Assembly Constituency Committee of the party said the 18-km-long Uttarappalliyar River, located in Alappuzha district, connects the Achankovil River and the Pampa River, flowing through the panchayats of Venmony, Ala, Cheriyanad, Puliyoor and Budhanoor before joining the Pampa at Illimala.
