Kottayam, May 4 -- The Kerala Congress (M), led by Jose K. Mani, is staring at a massive electoral setback as counting trends in the Kerala Assembly elections point to a near-total rejection of the party in Central Travancore.
For decades, the "Mani group" had been a decisive force in shaping the political landscape of the region. However, the latest trends indicate a sharp decline in its influence, with the party failing to take the lead in any of the 12 constituencies it contested.
In a significant personal defeat, Jose K. Mani lost once again in his stronghold of Pala. The seat was won by sitting MLA and UDF-backed independent Mani C. Kappan, who secured victory by a margin of 2,417 votes.
