Thiruvananthapuram, May 21 -- Kerala Chief Minister V D Satheesan on Thursday read out his full name, including his father's name "Damodaran Menon," while taking oath as a Member of the Kerala Legislative Assembly, brushing aside criticism from sections within the Congress and from social media commentators.
Satheesan took the oath before Pro-tem Speaker as "Vadassery Damodaran Menon Satheesan," the same expanded name he had used earlier this week during his swearing-in ceremony as Chief Minister.
The Chief Minister's decision to include the previously unused "Menon" suffix has triggered political debate in Kerala, with critics alleging that the move contradicted the progressive image and positions he had maintained in public life.
