Thiruvananthapuram, June 19 -- Defending the 2026-27 State Budget against Opposition criticism, Kerala Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan on Friday said the UDF government had presented a forward-looking Budget without increasing taxes despite facing the most severe financial challenges in the state's history.
Addressing a press conference at the Assembly Media Room after presenting his government's maiden Budget, he said the government's priority is to generate employment, attract investment and revive the state's economy rather than burden people with additional taxes.
The Chief Minister said Kerala is witnessing a demographic transition marked by a shrinking youth population and a growing number of elderly citizens.
