Thiruvananthapuram, June 6 -- Kerala aims to become a carbon-neutral state by 2050, Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan has said, reaffirming the government's commitment to integrating environmental protection and climate change mitigation into all development initiatives.

The Chief Minister said the government would not pursue development projects that harm nature and would continue to focus on balanced and sustainable growth.

While India has set a target of achieving carbon neutrality by 2070, Kerala is working towards reaching the goal two decades earlier, with substantial progress expected by 2040, he said.
