Thiruvananthapuram, June 25 -- Political tensions at the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation erupted into violence on Thursday as councillors of the CPI(M)-led Left Democratic Front (LDF) and the BJP engaged in heated confrontations over the controversial re-administration of oaths to councillors whose earlier oaths had been invalidated by the Kerala High Court.

The unrest began when LDF councillors staged a protest at the Corporation headquarters, demanding the resignation of Mayor VV Rajesh and Deputy Mayor PK Asha Nath. The opposition accused the Mayor of conducting a re-oath ceremony for BJP councillors without informing other members of the Corporation.
