Kochi, June 12 -- The Indian Navy has successfully recovered and safely disposed of an unexploded missile warhead discovered inside a crude oil tanker bound for Kochi, averting a potentially serious maritime and port safety hazard.

The highly sensitive operation was carried out aboard the Marshall Islands-flagged tanker MT Olympic Life, which had reported the presence of unexploded ordnance after an explosion damaged its hull while sailing off the coast of Oman on May 26. The vessel was travelling from Fujairah in the UAE to Kochi and had no Indian nationals on board.
