Thiruvananthapuram, May 4 -- Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan today stepped down from office following the defeat of the Left Democratic Front (LDF) in the 2026 Assembly elections.
In a departure from the usual practice, the Chief Minister did not call on the Governor in person. Instead, his resignation letter was forwarded to Lok Bhavan, the official residence of Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, through a special messenger.
The move came after it became evident that the United Democratic Front (UDF), led by the Congress, had secured a clear majority in the 140-member Assembly, ending the LDF's tenure.
