Bengaluru, May 13 -- Karnataka Government on Wednesday withdrew its controversial February 5, 2022 uniform order and issued fresh guidelines allowing students in schools and colleges to wear "limited traditional and faith-based symbols" along with prescribed uniforms, while stressing equality, discipline and secular values.

The move follows public outrage over an April 24 incident in which a student's sacred thread was allegedly cut at a school, triggering a wider debate on religious identity and student rights in educational institutions.
