Bengaluru, Aug. 2 -- Karnataka on Sunday put up a rare bipartisan show of unity on the Cauvery dispute, with an all-party meeting convened by Chief Minister DK Shivakumar unanimously backing a common legal strategy to safeguard the state's interests while reviving the long-pending Mekedatu balancing reservoir project as the only permanent solution to the decades-old river water dispute.
The meeting, attended by former chief ministers cutting across party lines, union ministers, MPs, legal experts and senior officials, came days after the Cauvery Water Management Authority (CWMA) upheld the Cauvery Water Regulation Committee's (CWRC) direction asking Karnataka to release 3,500 cusecs of water daily to Tamil Nadu for 15 days.
