Bengaluru, July 22 -- With the long-awaited expansion of the DK Shivakumar Cabinet entering its final stages, the ruling Congress is set to turn its attention to electing a new Speaker of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly before the legislature convenes in the first week of August.
The election is expected to complete the reconstitution of the state's constitutional and executive leadership following the formation of the new government. The Speaker's office has remained vacant since UT Khader stepped down after being inducted into the Shivakumar Cabinet.
Congress sources said the party high command will take the final decision on the Speaker's post, which has emerged as another key appointment after the Cabinet expansion.
