Bengaluru, Sept. 15 -- A fresh legal battle over the rendition of 'Vande Mataram' has reached the Karnataka High Court, with a PIL challenging the State government's decision to restrict the National Song to its first two stanzas at government functions and alleging that Karnataka cannot override the Union's prescribed protocol through an executive order.
The PIL, filed by advocate Girish Bharadwaj through advocate Angad Kamath, questions whether a State government can prescribe the form and content of a national symbol and seeks directions that whenever 'Vande Mataram' is sung at State functions, it should be rendered in the official version prescribed by the union government.
