Bengaluru, Sept. 23 -- Karnataka has created a dedicated statewide police machinery to investigate fraudulent insurance claims, giving the newly constituted Special Investigation Team (SIT) the status of a police station and authority to directly submit final reports to courts.
The move effectively creates a specialised investigation channel for insurance-fraud complaints, with cases received from insurance companies to be transferred to the SIT rather than being handled through separate police units.
Under a Home Department order issued on September 22, the SIT will have jurisdiction across Karnataka and will be headed by the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Crime and Technical Research Services (CTRS), Bengaluru.
