Hubballi, July 5 -- Karnataka's first green charcoal plant, only the second such facility in the country after Varanasi, has begun trial operations in Hubballi, promising to transform hundreds of tonnes of municipal waste into clean fuel while offering a long-term solution to the twin cities' mounting garbage crisis.
The Rs 157-crore project, established by NTPC on an eight-acre site at Gobbur, will convert municipal solid waste into green charcoal, which will be supplied to the Kudgi Thermal Power Station in Vijayapura district for power generation.
