Bengaluru, Aug. 22 -- Karnataka has launched a statewide crackdown on a suspected fake medicine mafia, with Health Minister UT Khader on Saturday announcing the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to uncover an alleged interstate network manufacturing, relabelling and distributing counterfeit drugs.
The move follows the seizure of suspected fake medicines worth more than Rs 5 crore at a single location, raising concerns that the racket could extend far beyond Bengaluru and Karnataka.
Khader said the scale of the seizure indicated that the operation could not have been confined to a single district, with preliminary information suggesting that medicines may have been manufactured in states such as Himachal Pradesh and Telangana...
