Bengaluru, Aug. 6 -- Karnataka Legislative Council Chairman Basavaraj Horatti on Thursday announced that he would resign from his post on August 14, saying he was stepping down to "protect the dignity of the Chair" amid the ruling Congress government's move to bring a no-confidence motion against him.
Addressing reporters, Horatti said Chief Minister DK Shivakumar and several Cabinet colleagues met him and urged him to resign, citing pressure from the Congress high command. He said he was informed that the government was considering moving a no-confidence motion against him after the Congress secured a majority in the Legislative Council.
