Mangaluru, Aug. 16 -- The Vande Mataram controversy intensified on Sunday with BJP leaders lodging a complaint against Congress Parliamentary Party chairperson Sonia Gandhi at Urwa Police Station here, accusing her of disrespecting the national song during the Congress' Independence Day function in New Delhi.

The complaint followed the circulation of a video from the August 15 programme in which Sonia Gandhi was seen gesturing and speaking towards Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge while the full rendition of Vande Mataram was being performed.
