Kakinada, Aug. 19 -- Plans are underway to connect Kakinada port with National Highway-216 near Uppalanka through a five-km four-lane greenfield road, District Collector M.N. Harendhira Prasad said on Wednesday.

Presiding over a meeting with officials at the Collectorate here, he said the proposed road would start from the south gate of Kakinada port and connect to NH-216.

At present, cargo vehicles leaving the port have to pass through Kakinada city and travel about 27 km to reach NH-216. Once the proposed greenfield road is completed, the distance would be reduced to about five km, he said.
