Kakinada, June 19 -- CPI State Secretariat member Thatipaka Madhu on Friday demanded that the Andhra Pradesh government waive crop loans up to Rs 2 lakh, on the lines of the scheme announced in Telangana, to provide relief to distressed farmers and prevent farmer suicides.
Addressing a press conference here, Madhu alleged that farmers have been facing a severe financial crisis over the past two years due to the lack of remunerative prices for their produce and mounting debt burdens.
He claimed that several farmers had taken the extreme step due to indebtedness and inadequate returns from agriculture.
