Hubballi/New Delhi, July 8 -- In a significant breakthrough for Karnataka's areca nut sector, union Minister Pralhad Joshi on Wednesday secured an assurance from Devendra Fadnavis that trucks carrying areca nut consignments from Karnataka will no longer face routine detention and prolonged inspections in Maharashtra, bringing major relief to thousands of farmers, traders and cooperative societies.
The assurance followed a high-level meeting between Joshi and Fadnavis in New Delhi after widespread complaints that Karnataka-registered trucks transporting areca nuts to markets in North India were being stopped for days across Maharashtra, disrupting trade and causing heavy financial losses.
