Shillong, Aug. 24 -- Meghalaya's ruling National People's Party (NPP) suffered a setback on Monday as senior leader and former Rajya Sabha member Dr. Wanwei Roy Kharlukhi resigned from the party, ending his decades-long association with the organisation.
Kharlukhi submitted his resignation to NPP state president Prestone Tynsong, who is also Meghalaya's Deputy Chief Minister, and sought immediate removal of his name from the party's primary membership records.
Kharlukhi has been the close aide of former Lok Sabha Speaker, late Purno Agitok Sangma since the time of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and later when the NPP was launched in Meghalaya and expanded across the country by Purno.
