New Delhi, Sept. 9 -- Minister of Earth Sciences, Jitendra Singh, on Wednesday launched Sagar Manthan, an Ocean Research Vessel that is likely to gradually replace the 43-year-old Sagar Kanya, a research ship procured from Germany in 1983, said officials from the Ministry.
The minister unveiled the maritime technology at Rishi Bankim Shipyard in Kolkata, calling the occasion a "red letter day" for the National Centre for Polar and Ocean Research (NCPOR) and lauded the team for completing the construction project barely five months after the keel-laying ceremony in April this year.
