New Delhi, June 30 -- As the threat of a deficit monsoon looms over Indian agriculture, Minister of Science and Technology Jitendra Singh on Tuesday urged for stronger partnerships between agricultural research and industry, calling it the driver of the next phase of India's economic growth.

"India's agriculture sector continues to offer enormous untapped potential.with the country's scientific priorities expanded beyond crop improvement to developing technologies that convert agricultural waste and residues into valuable products," the minister said.

Singh made the remarks while inaugurating four research facilities during his visit to Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (CSIR-IICT), a Hyderabad-based research institution.
