Ranchi, June 30 -- The Jharkhand Police Association on Tuesday apologised to the tribal community for the alleged excesses committed by the then police administration during the 1855 Santhal Hul, describing it as a step towards healing historical wounds and strengthening mutual trust.

On the occasion of Hul Diwas, association president Rahul Kumar Murmu said the organisation was expressing regret over the alleged atrocities committed under the colonial administration by then Diggi police station officer Mahesh Lal Dutta against the Santhal community.

Murmu said the association believed acknowledging historical injustices would help promote reconciliation and serve as a tribute to the known and unknown martyrs of the Santhal Hul.
