Ranchi, April 8 -- Jharkhand BJP on Wednesday thanked the Centre for releasing Rs 2,254 crore for the State's 4,342 panchayats and urged the Hemant Soren government to ensure transparent utilisation of the funds.

Addressing a press conference here, BJP state vice-president Bhanu Pratap Shahi said each panchayat would receive around Rs 52 lakh and stressed that the amount should be spent on rural infrastructure and basic civic facilities.

He said the funds should be utilised for works such as PCC roads, drains, schools, anganwadi centres, hospitals and panchayat buildings, depending on local needs and priorities.
