Ranchi, June 22 -- Ranchi is set to host the prestigious Durand Cup football tournament for the first time, with the 2026 edition likely to begin on July 26, officials said on Monday.
Preparations for the tournament were reviewed at a meeting chaired by Mukesh Kumar, Secretary, Tourism, Art, Culture, Sports and Youth Affairs Department.
Officials discussed stadium readiness, security arrangements, logistics, cultural programmes and measures to enhance the spectator experience during the tournament.
Kumar said hosting the Durand Cup would mark a significant milestone in Jharkhand's sporting journey and provide a major boost to football development in the state.
