Ranchi, July 20 -- The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday alleged that the Jharkhand government was misusing the police to target its leaders and workers who had demanded action over the alleged death of a woman after childbirth in Jamtara.

Addressing a press conference, BJP state chief spokesperson Pratul Shah Deo alleged that police had conducted raids at the residence of Jamtara district BJP president Sumit Sharan and other party leaders instead of taking action against those responsible for the woman's death.

He alleged that the state government was attempting to suppress democratic protests and accused the Jamtara police of acting under political pressure.
