Patna, March 2 -- Ruling JD(U) MP Devesh Chandra Thakur on Monday favoured lifting the liquor ban in Bihar, saying it would be better if prohibition was withdrawn in the state.

Thakur said that Bihar had an open border with neighbouring states Jharkhand, West Bengal and Uttar Pradesh and there was no liquor ban in these states, which made it easy to bring liquor to the state through illegal routes. Nowhere in the world has a liquor ban been successful, he pointed out.
