Jammu, July 15 -- The 12-day-long Shri Baba Buddha Amarnath Yatra is likely to begin on August 17 this year in the border district of Poonch in Jammu and Kashmir.

The first batch of pilgrims will leave from the Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas in Jammu for Poonch.

"The Yatra is likely to commence on August 17 and conclude on August 28, coinciding with Raksha Bandhan," official sources said.

They said that, as every year, a large number of devotees are expected to visit the shrine and pay obeisance to Baba Shri Buddha Amarnath.

"Arrangements are being made, and the district administration is reviewing the preparations to ensure the smooth and successful conduct of the Yatra," the sources added.
